Claude Lakey has come up with a piece that in terms of power and projection can be compared with the Vandoren Jumbo Java. It shares many characteristics with a metal mouthpiece in terms of the power and projection that you can produce, with real clarity of sound. However, like the jumbo java with some work, this can be tamed and you can produce a warmer and darker sound with more tonal characteristics. It’s very free-blowing and the altissimo comes screaming off this piece with ultimate ease.

The Claude Lakey mouthpiece is great if you want to be heard while playing in a loud setting. Easy to play it, and it gives you a huge sound. The large baffle makes the sound bright, but it's very easy to control and you can easily shape it to make it fit the setting you are in. The low notes pop out very easily and with precision, and the high notes stay full and fat. I'd say it's suitable for those who mainly do pop / funk and occasionally some jazz big band playing. Tommy (Sax London)
